Since the town "dump" was capped in 1999, it has been replaced by the
Waste Management Facility. This is a transfer
station, everything that comes there must be sorted and
stored for eventual disposal elsewhere. It is
important that loads entering the gate be packed to facilitate
easy and quick separation.
Residential Curbside Trash Collection
Most houses, condominiums and apartment buildings with fewer than
five units are served by a weekly curbside trash pickup which is
financed by town property taxes. Each residence is permitted up
to 3 containers weekly (not to exceed 32 gallon capacity each.)
Trucks will collect between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Call
Town Hall to find the collection day for your street. Whenever a
scheduled collection day falls on a holiday, that day's
collection and all remaining collections for the week will be
delayed one day.
Yard Waste
Leaves, grass clippings, vines, garden waste, hedge clippings may
be taken to the town compost area on Blacksmith Shop Road. Hours
are Tuesday through Saturday 8:15 to 3:30. No Fee. Remove from
bags. NO brush or stumps. No flower pots.
Town and State regulations ban the curbside disposal for incineration of the following items:
- Hazardous Wastes
- Explosives or Ammunition
- Leaves and Grass Clippings
- Bulky Wastes like sofas
- Construction and Demolition Materials
- Recyclable Glass, Plastic and Metal Food Containers
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Recyclable Paper
Residential Curbside Recycling
Curbside recycling is available every other week, on trash
collection day, to all residents with curbside trash service.
Consult the calendar distributed by the Recycler for service on
your street. Call Allied Waste at 1-800-352-7808 for missed
collection.
- Rinse and place in blue recycling bin plastic, glass and
metal food containers-- all colors and sizes.
- Labels maybe left on. Recycle aluminum food trays and foil.
Should be rinsed clean.
- NO Stryofoam. NO window glass. NO drinking glasses. NO
Plastic bags. They may be recycled at supermarkets.
- Place in paper grocery bag, or tie with string: newspaper
with inserts, magazines, catalogs, phone books, junk mail,
computer paper, paperboard, e.g.cereal boxes (remove plastic
liners).
- NO egg cartons.
- NO pizza boxes.
- Corrugated cardboard: Flatten, no bigger than 2' by
2' .Tie with string. NO waxed cardboard.
Household trash and recycables which are collected curbside plus
the following materials may be disposed of at the WMF:
