The Town of Falmouth invites residents to join us for a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Falmouth Senior Center on December 13, 2018 at 12:00 PM located at 780 Main Street between the Police Station and Gus Canty Recreation Center.
The Falmouth Council on Aging Senior Center mission is to advocate on behalf of all residents age 60+ in addressing their needs and identifying and developing resources of assistance, provide information, referrals to other community agencies, outreach, health services, transportation, education and recreation programs and activities. There is a special emphasis in promoting healthy aging and enhancing quality of life for older adults and their supporting families.
This project is the culmination of years of planning to create a facility that meets the current and future services and program needs of our growing senior population. The Board of Selectmen prioritized the New Senior Center within their Strategic and Capital plan and authorized a rigorous Site Feasibility and Conceptual Design Study. With the support of the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee and the Council on Aging, Town Meeting approved funding of $9.7 million and town residents subsequently approved a ballot measure to authorize a debt exemption for construction of a new 17,000 square foot senior center at this location.
The design of this facility was developed through a close collaboration among the Senior Center Building Committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen, Town Staff, Architect Joel Bargmann of Bargmann, Hendrie & Archetype, Inc. (bh+a), and Owner's Project Manager Daniel Pallotta of P3 Project Planning Professionals. Having secured a bid within the available budget despite a challenging construction market, the Town is pleased to begin the construction phase.
