[ARCHIVED] Route 28/Main Street Water Main Replacement Update 2/6/2020

There are multiple items to explain for the work going forward to February 14th.

First, it looks like the weather will push off our normal Friday paving into Saturday this week.

Second, the water main installation is at Main Street and Lantern Lane. On Monday and Tuesday we will install the water main through the Nye Road intersection.

Once we are past that intersection we will stop the installation of the main pipe for about one week.

Third, There is no room to install the new main in the roadway between Nye Road and Falmouth Heights Road unless we remove an existing utility pipe that is already there.

We will be spending about one week moving individual water services that are on the existing 8 inch cast iron main and connecting them to the existing 12 inch AC pipe.

The cast iron main is on the south side – the Dairy Queen side of the street – and the properties on that side of the street we will be notifying you a couple of days ahead of time about the service relocation.

Fourth, if we have to shut the water off to your establishment, it should typically be for about 1 hour or a little more. Our inspector, Bill Carlson will work with you on the day and time that the service transfer will happen.

Once we have all the services relocated we will resume installing the 16 inch main – work will consist of removing the old 8 inch main and installing the new main in the same alignment as the old pipe.

The weather has generally cooperated and we have been getting more work done than we had planned. Appreciate everyone’s understanding and cooperation as we proceed.

Detours will continue and will typically involve King to Queen to Scranton. Access to stores, churches, and residences is always available from one end of the work zone or another, just let the detail officer know your needs and they will let your through.
