Coastal Resiliency Planning for the Surf Drive Area
December 5, 2019, 6:00 PM
Gus Canty Community Center
790 Main St, Falmouth MA 02540
The recent town-wide Falmouth Climate Change Flood Vulnerability Assessment identified the Surf Drive area as one of the most vulnerable areas in Town. To further evaluate the risk to this area, as well as to develop a comprehensive strategy to adapt to sea level rise and improve the long-term coastal resiliency of this area, the Town of Falmouth was awarded an Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Action Grant for Coastal Resiliency Planning for the Surf Drive Area. Although the project is currently only in the initial phases, the Town recognizes that public engagement is a critical component of any climate change adaptation and planning project. To begin this dialogue, a public outreach session is scheduled for Thursday, December 5th at 6pm at the Gus Canty Community Center. This session will begin with a brief overview presentation describing the reasons for this study, highlighting the existing infrastructure and features within the study area, and reviewing the detailed flood vulnerability results. Although the study will ultimately provide recommendations for a phased implementation plan to increase coastal resiliency of this area, the project is still in the early stages, and this event is intended to gather comments and feedback from residents prior to developing any specific recommendations for action. Following the initial presentation, interactive stations will be set-up to allow attendees to dig deeper into specific asset types within the study area and view the risk maps in more detail.
