What We Are About

The Massachusetts Councils on Aging were first created in 1956 to help identify the needs of the over 59 elders in the community, and to enlist the support and participation of the community to meet these needs. In 1970, the first Council on Aging was formed in Falmouth by order of the Town Meeting. Shortly thereafter, the Falmouth Senior Center came into being. Today, the Council on Aging work is accomplished in cooperation with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc.

The Falmouth Senior Center, established in 1970, is located very close to the downtown area of Falmouth between East Falmouth and Woods Hole, and is open and free of charge to all seniors in their 60th year. It serves a membership of approximately 4,000 seniors and offers numerous social activities and Outreach services/programs as outlined below. (Click on the Monthly Newsletter link to obtain further information.) Since its inception, the Senior Center has been striving to enlarge its services and programs. The future holds promise of a new Senior Center building to house our ever-increasing size.

Essential services are available through the Outreach department of the Senior Center, which works closely with many other town, county, and state agencies to bring various kinds of assistance to the Falmouth seniors.
