The Board of Selectmen formed the Water Quality Management Committee in 2011 to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Selectmen in the process of drafting a Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan and other related activities. The Final Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan and Environmental Impact Report were submitted to the state in October 2013, and implementation of the plan is well underway. An Update to the 2013 Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan is now being prepared for submittal to the state in December of 2019. The Water Quality Management Committee's website provides meeting agendas, minutes and other important updates about the Committee's ongoing activities, including the ongoing shellfish pilot project, permeable reactive barrier evaluations and others.
In addition, the Town of Falmouth is working with other Upper Cape Towns to evaluate potential partnership for shared wastewater management options among the four towns using the Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) treatment, collection and discharge system. A report, the Joint Base Cape Cod Shared Wastewater Study 2017, was issued at the end of the first phase of study. The second phase of study is underway and a second report is expected to be issued in 2019.
